We often wonder about eternal life. Those who are striving to inherit this life wonder if they are doing the right things to achieve eternal security. This eternal life is given to us who trust Jesus. We can’t buy it, we can’t work for it and we can’t take it. It is a Gift.

To receive this Gift, we must follow Jesus and accept Him as Lord. Jesus is Lord and Savior, He saves us from our sins. He redeemed us from sin so that we will have the gift of eternal life. Matthew 19:16-22 tells us about a prominent young man in the community. Matthew called him “The Rich Young Ruler”. Apparently, “This Young Ruler” knew that he needed something to inherit eternal life. He went to Jesus and asked Him about what good thing he needed to do to have eternal life? Jesus cited five of the last six commandments.

In Mark’s Gospel we are told that Jesus looked at him and loved him, and said, "One thing you lack: Go sell all you have, give to the poor, and come and follow Me".

Jesus gave him what he needed for eternal life, but the Young Man rejected it. We cannot trust in things for eternal life, we must trust in Jesus.
